Workshop on the Performance of Greek Tragedy

On Wed 2 October, 2-5pm, in Arts Seminar 1, Andrea Cabrera Luna of Anahat Theatre Company (https://anahattheatre.com) led a workshop on the performance of choral passages from Greek tragedy.

Our case study was the first stasimon (often known as the ‘Binding Song’) of Aeschylus’ Eumenides, in which the chorus of Furies surround Orestes and threaten him with an assortment of grisly punishments for killing his mother.

This was an exciting opportunity to learn from an experienced theatre practitioner, and no prior knowledge of the text or familiarity with Greek tragedy was required. By bringing a choral ode to life in this way, our aim will be to gain insights into the richness of tragic choral poetry and the challenges of performing it.
