Fleur Darkin

Fleur Darkin is a world-leading choreographer, dancer and director. Formerly Artistic Director of Scottish Dance Theatre, the company toured extensively across Scotland and the UK, and to Sweden, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Korea, Romania, Belgium, Serbia, Brazil, Hungary and France, with repeated tours in India, China and Mexico. Under her direction, the company produced 23 new works and worked with more than 90 artists.

Highlights of Fleur’s work include Equilux – a commission for Cuba’s national dance company Danca Contemporanea de Cuba, SisGo (Edinburgh International Festival), and the family work Innocence – still touring after 130 performances so far. Fleur has worked in universities, conservatoires, prisons and schools across the world and most recently led projects at UNSAM (Argentina) and Prem (Thailand). Fleur’s first original work for Scottish Dance Theatre, Miann, was awarded the Linbury Prize and Glasgow 2014 commission and featured as part of the cultural program at Brazil Olympics 2016. Velvet Petal, a co-commission by Cervantino Festival (Mexico) and Tramway won the 2017 Lustrum Award and will tour the UK again in 2019.’

A prolific collaborator, Fleur has worked with National Theatre of Scotland, Abbey Theatre (Dublin), Lyceum (Edinburgh), and was Associate Artist at Bristol Old Vic. Fleur directed the UK’s first peer-led laboratory into choreography which was attended by artists from around the world. 2019 projects include two new shows with Royal Court Theatre and National Theatre. The Observer newspaper has described Fleur as ‘One of the most overtly theatrical choreographers of the British New Wave’.
